Overview of ZeroGPT

On Trustpilot, ZeroGPT has a rating of 1.4 stars based on 45 reviews, which means that most customers are dissatisfied with their experience with this service. According to the reviews, the detector fails to accurately recognize if the content is AI-generated and keeps flagging human-written as written by AI, which is understandably frustrating for the user.

However, ZeroGPT reviews on G2 are much more positive, and the average rating it holds there is 4/5—the difference is too great to ignore. We know ZeroGPT is popular as an AI content detector, and many of our readers use it (or have it used to check their writings). So, to answer all the questions you might have, we did our research and tested it ourselves to give you an unbiased perspective.

Spoiler alert: we side more with Trustpilot’s rating than with G2’s—ZeroGPT is indeed inaccurate, unfair, and yet somehow, easily cheatable.

Our Verdict on ZeroGPT

First, let’s see what other people have to say about ZeroGPT on different review aggregators. On Trustpilot, almost all feedback is negative. The number one reason for 1-star reviews (which make up 98% of all ZeroGPT ratings!) is the tool’s tendency to flag human-written content as AI-generated. The three words used to describe ZeroGPT’s detector are “useless,” “unreliable,” and “inaccurate”—so all the things an AI detector shouldn’t be.

On G2, most reviews give the tool 5 or 4 stars; reviewers seem generally happy with ZeroGPT’s accuracy and reliability. Such a difference in feedback across platforms is confusing and, sadly, might suggest that reviews on either Trustpilot or G2 (most likely, G2) aren’t authentic.

We think it’s more likely that Trustpilot’s 1.4 rating is real (as opposed to G2’s 4.0) because we have checked ZeroGPT multiple times first-hand with various content types—and the one thing we can confidently say is that it’s far from accurate. And it isn’t its only flaw, even if it is the most important one.

Accuracy: Is ZeroGPT Good at Detecting AI-Generated Content?

First of all, how does ZeroGPT work? According to the website, it uses DeepAnalyse Technology (if you google it, you won’t find much) that supposedly uses “a multi-stage methodology designed to optimize accuracy while minimizing false positives and negatives.”

Based on our experience with ZeroGPT—as well as other people’s experiences, at least according to Trustpilot—that technology doesn’t really work. We’ve tested the detector with three different texts: one completely AI-generated blog post, one fully human-written article (written before AI content generation was even a thing), and one text that included a mix of both human and AI-written content.

ZeroGPT did a good job at identifying that our ChatGPT-generated blog post was 100% AI GPT. But that’s pretty much the only successful outcome we had. The tool highlighted parts of the other two texts (including the entirely human-written one). What’s more, the highlighted parts kept changing with each check—and so did the percentage of supposedly AI-generated content.

Moreover, the parts from our 50-50 text that ZeroGPT highlighted were mostly human-written, whereas the AI-generated paragraphs remained unflagged—ZeroGPT was way off.

TL;DR: ZeroGPT might be good at detecting entirely AI-generated content as such, but beyond that, the tool is very inaccurate and, therefore, unreliable.

Ease of Use: How Convenient Is ZeroGPT’s AI Detector?

One of ZeroGPT’s perks is that you can use it for free, and the character limit isn’t as strict as what most competitors offer: you can analyze up to 15,000 characters at once. To compare, Quillbot’s limit is 1,200 words, which is roughly twice lower than ZeroGPT’s. A few popular AI detectors offer even fewer unless the user is willing to pay.

However, that’s where ZeroGPT’s usability perks end. The number one problem is that you can’t send your results to anyone without taking screenshots; just copying the link isn’t an option. Seeing as most people need an AI check to prove to someone that their work is human-written, that’s not very convenient.

Also, unless you’re paying, you will have to deal with tons of ads. We understand that this is how ZeroGPT can make their tools available for free in the first place, but still, the ads are too much and are guaranteed to annoy you. We only spent maybe 30 minutes on the website to test the tools for this ZeroGPT.com review, but that was enough. If there’s a limit on how many ads a website can have without frustrating the user, ZeroGPT has definitely exceeded it.

What About Other ZeroGPT Tools—ZeroCHAT, AI Summarizer, etc.?

By now, you probably know that our answer to “How good is ZeroGPT?” is “Not at all.” However, up until this point, we were talking only about ZeroGPT’s AI Detector. But what about other tools?

The short answer is, “Some are just as bad, others marginally better.” For example, to use ZeroGPT’s plagiarism detector, you will need to pay, and the cheapest plan won’t be enough. If you’re only paying for Pro, you will get as little as 750 words in plagiarism checker per month! That’s not enough, even for one essay.

Granted, we did like ZeroGPT’s summarizer. It does a pretty good job at summarizing the content you feed it, and you can even pick if you’d like the summary to be in bullets or regular text. However, the word limit for the text you need a summary of is only 1,500 words (unless you decide to pay).

Pricing: Is ZeroGPT Worth Paying for? Are the Prices Reasonable?

So, is ZeroGPT free? Yes and no. You can use some of the tools—including the AI detector—for free, but there are character limits, and they are pretty low. Also, you will have to deal with tons of ads, so your experience won’t be particularly pleasant.

As to whether or not ZeroGPT’s pricing is reasonable depends on the tools you intend to use the most. For example, if you’re more interested in ZeroGPT’s plagiarism detector than the AI detector, you will have to pay at least $14.99/month (the so-called PLUS plan). Otherwise, your word limit for the plagiarism detector will be too low for the tool to be usable. If you’re mostly after the AI detector, though, even the $7.99 PRO plan should suffice.

Also, there are a few advanced features you can get with the MAX plan ($18.99/month), such as the ability to use a built-in AI detector in your WhatsApp and Telegram chats, but we aren’t sure they’re worth the price.

Let’s review each of the pricing plans in detail to help you decide if ZeroGPT is worth it.

Pricing Plans

If you’re reading this ZeroGPT review, you’re probably entertaining the idea of paying for ZeroGPT instead of only sticking to what’s available there for free. So, what can you expect if you decide to upgrade your plan?

PRO: For $7.99/month or $95.88/year, you raise your AI detector limit to 100,000 characters (it’s only 15,000 for free users). Also, you get rid of the ads, can look up the history of your AI detections (without the text itself included, though), 2,000 prompts with ZeroGPT’s very own conversational AI called ZeroCHAT, and more.

PLUS: For $14.99/month or $179.88/year, you get a little bit more of everything, but not much—except when it comes to the plagiarism detector. With this plan, you increase your word limit from 750 to 25,000 words/month. Honestly, we aren’t sure if it’s worth it—there are cheaper and better alternatives.

MAX: With the MAX plan ($18.99/month or $227.88/year), your limits on using the AI Summarizer, AI Paraphrizer, ZeroCHAT, and other ZeroGPT features skyrocket, but the main appeal is the chance to use built-in AI detection in your WhatsApp chats. However, based on everything we’ve seen from ZeroGPT, the MAX plan is overpriced.

Are There Any Good Alternatives for an AI Detector?

Yes, based on our experience researching and testing different AI detection tools, we can offer a few alternatives that seem like smarter choices than ZeroGPT. You don’t have to consider them, but seeing as we mostly criticize ZeroGPT, we thought we’d suggest a couple of solutions.

First, we encourage you to try GPTZero (yes, it’s a different tool than ZeroGPT, as confusing as that is). Not only is it more accurate, but it also allows you to check up to 50,000 characters for free—that’s over three times more than what you can check with ZeroGPT without paying.

Also, you might want to look into Quillbot. Unless you’re willing to pay, you can only check texts up to 1,200 with it, but it’s pretty accurate, at least compared to ZeroGPT.

ZeroGPT Plagiarism Checker: Does the AI Detector Flag Plagiarized Content?

ZeroGPT’s AI Detector doesn’t flag plagiarized content, but nor is it supposed to. There’s a separate tool for that, ZeroGPT Plagiarism Checker. It works similarly to the Detector: all you need to do is paste your text or upload it as an attachment—and you’ll have it analyzed. Unlike the AI detector, ZeroGPT’s plagiarism checker is pretty accurate, and it’s also quicker than most free alternatives available.

However, if you want to test the checker before paying, you can’t. It’s only available to paying users. Moreover, because of the word limits, you will only be able to use it if you pay for the PLUS or MAX plan. Considering the price, we encourage you to research the market and find cheaper alternatives. ZeroGPT’s plagiarism checker is fine but overpriced.

ZeroGPT Pros and Cons: Basically Free Yet Inaccurate

Now that you have in-depth answers to “What is ZeroGPT?” and “Is ZeroGPT any good?”, let’s summarize what’s there to like and not to like about ZeroGPT’s AI Detector. As you can probably guess from everything you’ve read here up to this point, there will be more cons than pros.

Pros:
  • âś… ZeroGPT’s AI Detector is available for free
  • âś… The character limits for the detector are higher than usual
  • âś… ZeroGPT has a bunch of helpful tools you get access to if you become a paying user
Cons:
  • ❌ The AI detector is inaccurate and unreliable. It often flaggs human-written content as AI-generated
  • ❌ Too many ads (unless you pay)
  • ❌ You can’t send the results of your check to anyone without taking screenshots
  • ❌ You need to buy expensive plans (PLUS or MAX) if you want to use other ZeroGPT tools—especially the plagiarism checker—without overly strict limits

Is ZeroGPT legit?

Yes, ZeroGPT is a legitimate tool. It may not be very accurate, but it’s not a scam in any way.

Is ZeroGPT trustworthy?

No, unfortunately, ZeroGPT isn’t very trustworthy, especially when it comes to AI detection. It keeps flagging human-written content as AI-generated and vice versa. So, we wouldn’t trust it, especially when the stakes are high.

Can I use ZeroGPT for free?

Yes, if you need ZeroGPT strictly as an AI detector, you can use it for free. The ads are annoying, and there is a character limit, but that’s the case for almost all AI detectors unless you’re a paying user.

What are other ZeroGPT tools besides the AI Detector?

ZeroGPT offers a bunch of tools, including a plagiarism checker, a paraphraser, a summarizer, and a ChatGPT-like conversational AI called ZeroCHAT, among others. Most of them are only available to paying customers, though.

Is ZeroGPT accurate?

No, ZeroGPT is anything but accurate. It’s good at identifying AI-generated content when the entire text is AI-generated, but that’s pretty much it. With human-written and half-human-half-AI texts, you’re at a high risk for false positives.

Is ZeroGPT safe to use?

Yes, ZeroGPT doesn’t store your data in any way, so it’s safe to use. Still, as with any AI tool, we wouldn’t recommend sharing any sensitive content with it just to be on the safe side.

ZeroGPT is a decent tool for detecting AI-generated text. It helped me check some documents, but the accuracy wasn’t always perfect. A good option, but could use some improvements.

I was disappointed with ZeroGPT’s accuracy. Some AI-written content passed as human, and vice versa. Wouldn’t rely on it for serious verification.
