Crossplag Tool Overview

Crossplag is rated 1.7 stars out of 5 based on 2 reviews, which means that most customers are dissatisfied with their experience with this tool. Based on users’ reviews, Crossplag does not accurately recognize AI content and, on the contrary, identifies texts written by humans as 50% AI-generated. Crossplag is ranked 24th among the sites that help with AI content checks.

Although it claims to be the most advanced and affordable similarity-checking tool, users claim that the Crossplag AI detector doesn’t work correctly. Negative reviews emphasize the tool’s inability to distinguish content written by humans from that generated by AI, making it a detector not worth relying on.

While this tool was intended for multi-purpose AI detection, it has become one of the tools modern students want to have in their arsenal these days when AI content becomes a rising issue in the academic field. Given the fact that schools, colleges, and universities don’t tolerate the use of generative AI in academic writing, students now need a tool that can help them check their papers before submission and ensure there is no AI.

Crossplag claims to bring 95% accuracy to the table. To see if it’s worth trying, our team of experts has carefully tested this detector, and we’re about to share our findings with you.

Our Expert’s Verdict

Crossplag has been around for 6 years and claims to be a reliable and accurate AI detector for institutions and students. Our experts carefully studied the tool and its features to give you a complete overview.

So, what’s our verdict? At first glance, Crossplag looks like a legit AI detector. The site and tool itself are very intuitive, which makes it easy to get started with it.

If you are wondering how to use Crossplag AI, you need to register first. Once you create an account, you will receive 10 free credits to test Crossplag, and all you need to do is upload a document or paste your text into the relevant box and click “Check.”

Ease of use definitely gives Crossplag a few points. However, once you get to the most important – accuracy, that’s where Crossplag is way off.

The tool seems to work badly in terms of detecting AI content and understanding what content is written by a human, which makes it a poor option to rely on if you are looking for accuracy.

What Is Crossplag AI?

Before we delve into the specs and features, let’s start by answering the primary question – what is Crossplag?

Crossplag is a platform developed by Inspera – a Norwegian-origin company that specializes in digital examination, assessment, and proctoring solutions for global organizations.

The first version of Crossplag was released in 2018, and it was a similarity-checking technology available for Albanian-speaking countries. The goal of the platform was to help Albanian students, researchers, and universities validate academic work and ensure compliance with universal academic rigor and publication ethics.

In 2024, Crossplag still offers similarity checking for education and individuals, and, additionally, it offers an AI detection tool. It supports 100+ languages and has a database of 70+ billion web articles for comparison.

Crossplag’s AI tool, in particular, was designed with the rise of generative AI technology to help educators and students assess the AI originality of text in a few simple clicks. The tool leverages a combination of natural language processing techniques and machine learning algorithms to predict whether the input text is generated by AI or written by a human.

Customer Support Service

Generally, Crossplag offers a standard number of means of communication. Its support team is available via:

- Email
- Phone
- Live chat

This looks pretty convenient to a user. However, there are a few pitfalls.

When testing a live chat, one thing we didn’t like from the start is that you have to share your name and email address to contact the support team, which may not feel very comfortable for new users.

Furthermore, after trying to get in touch with support several times, we never received an answer in a chat. It always showed us a generic message indicating that all agents were busy and suggested contacting them via email.

As for the phone-based support, it’s also hard to break through. We dialed the support several times and were kept waiting with no result. Also, it’s worth noting that the phone number starts with “+383,” which means that you might pay a toll for your call if this isn’t your country’s code.

Eventually, we got in touch with the support team via email and asked additional questions about the Crossplag detector. Although the manager was generally helpful, we remained unhappy with our experience with customer support.

Features and Use

To use the Crossplag plagiarism checker or AI detector, you need to create an account on the platform or sign in with your Google or LinkedIn account.

Once you log in, you can simply upload a document you want to scan or input it into the relevant box. After this, you only need to press the “Check” button and wait for the tool to analyze your text.

All in all, while testing Crossplag, we liked the overall intuitiveness and convenience of the tool. Getting started with it is quite easy, which is a big plus.

One thing we didn’t like, though, was the way this tool presented the result. It only shows you a percentage of AI-generated text on a scale, without highlighting specific AI parts inside the text. This can make it a bit more challenging to fix errors and improve the score of your text.

Pricing Plans

If you’re determined to try using Cross Plag, you have several pricing options to choose from. For individual users, there are two plans:

1. Pay as you go. The tool works based on credits (1 credit per 1,000 words you scan), meaning that you have to pay again every time you use up your credits. If you choose the “Pay as you go” plan, you will pay €9.95 for every 50 credits (5,000 words).
2. Bundle. In case you need to check lots of documents on a regular basis, buying 50-credit packs might be less convenient than getting a Crossplag “Bundle” plan. This plan contains 1,000 credits (100,000 words), and it costs €149.95.

Whatever option you choose, you receive the same set of features, which includes:

- Cross-lingual check
- Single language report
- No daily limits
- 24/7 document check

However, if you choose “Bundle,” you will also receive priority customer support and faster document checks.

Additionally, there is a special pricing opportunity for institutions. To receive a special offer, institutions need to contact the platform and specify their needs.

Trial Period and Cancellations

Now that you know about the pricing plans for the AI detector Crossplag, it’s natural to wonder whether there is an opportunity to test the tool before you pay. Luckily, the platform offers a trial period to all new users.

Once you create an account, you will receive 10 credits free of charge. Ten credits are equivalent to 10,000 words, which means that you can scan one or multiple texts of up to 10,000 words to see if Crossplag is a good tool for you and decide whether you want to buy additional credits or not.

What about cancellations? Since Crossplag is credit-based, it doesn’t have cancellation terms because you always decide whether or not to purchase additional credits and when to do it.

As for a refund for purchased credits, our experts found this matter to be a little tricky. According to the platform’s Knowledge Base, there is a Delivery & Refund Policies page that explains the terms of a refund. However, after trying to access this page, we faced an error that prevented us from checking out Crossplag’s money-back policy.

Moreover, on the platform’s Terms of Service page, we found a phrase that stated that this service was non-refundable, which likely means that once you purchase credits, you can only use them up.

Crossplag Review: Brand Reputation

As you already know, Crossplag was launched not so long ago, which makes it a rather new tool out there. Due to this reason, the platform can’t boast a large number of ratings and customer reviews on the web, which makes assessing its reputation rather hard.

Two customer reviews we found on Trustpilot are both negative and rate Crossplag with just 1 star. In these reviews, users emphasize the incorrect work of the tool and the overall lack of accuracy.

Browsing through other trusted review platforms, we didn’t find any mentions of Crossplag or additional reviews. However, when we hopped on Reddit, we found a few other stories about this tool. One story encouraged Reddit users to “Beware false positives from crossplag AI detector” as it can be not as accurate as you expect. Another story stated that Crossplag detected the King James Bible as AI-generated.

All these negative reviews and stories demonstrate that users are generally not happy with Crossplag AI, though we have to admit that the amount of reviews is still insufficient to assess the reputation objectively.

Crossplag Plagiarism Detector Accuracy

Now that you know about the features, ease of use, pricing, and other aspects of the Crossplag detector, let’s answer the main question – is Crossplag accurate?

Our experts used Crossplag to scan several short essays – one fully generated by AI and the other one written by a professional writer and confirmed to be human-written by three other AI detectors.

The result? Every scan took under 10 seconds to complete, which is good. However, the accuracy was off, sadly. While the essay generated by AI was shown to have only 10% AI, a human-written paper was marked as 100% AI-generated. This confirms negative user reviews that emphasize the incorrect work of Crossplag.

Crossplag Pros and Cons

Without any doubt, AI-generated content is a big problem in the academic sector these days. Schools, colleges, and universities don’t tolerate the use of AI in academic writing. Hence, to ensure academic integrity, modern students need reliable AI detectors to scan their papers.

Unfortunately, not all AI checkers are reliable enough. After studying and testing Crossplag, our experts found a number of pros and cons that you need to consider before deciding if this tool is good for you.

Pros:
  • ✅ The website is very intuitive and doesn’t take much time to find all the needed information and create an account
  • ✅ Scanning your first text for AI is easy and only takes a few moments to receive the result
  • ✅ All new users receive 10 credits free of charge to test the tool before paying for extra credits
Cons:
  • ❌ The brand reputation isn’t too good as there are not many reviews and most of them are negative ones
  • ❌ The accuracy of Crossplag needs improvement as it detects human text as AI and vice versa
  • ❌ The customer support service is not very convenient and doesn’t work as expected
  • ❌ The money-back policy is probably missing

Is Crossplag AI detector legit?

Yes. Crossplag is a platform developed by a legitimate company. It is correctly registered and operates according to its policies and terms of use, which means that it’s absolutely legit. However, this doesn’t stand for its reliability.

Can I rely on Crossplag’s accuracy?

Although the platform states that Crossplag is the most accurate AI detector out there, both customer reviews and our own experience prove this statement wrong. The Crossplag detector still lacks accuracy and doesn’t seem to detect AI-generated content correctly, which makes it not worth relying on.

Does it cost money to use Crossplag?

Yes. Crossplag is a paid AI detector that offers users several pricing options: you can purchase packs of 50 credits as you go, buy a bundle of 1,000 credits at once, or request an individual plan if you’re an institution. However, you get 10 free credits as a new user to have your trial period.

Is it safe to use Crossplag?

Yes. According to the platform’s Privacy Policy, Crossplag leverages a number of measures to protect your safety and maintain the privacy of your data. Still, the site doesn’t guarantee full security.

Can I get my money back from Crossplag?

Although there is a page that’s meant to clarify Crossplag’s refund policy, this page isn’t accessible. This made us think that Crossplag is a non-refundable service and you need to use your credits or give up on them if you purchase from Crossplag.

Is Crossplag a good choice for me?

If you are looking for a reliable AI detector, the choice should eventually come down to your own preferences and needs. That is, you should carefully compare the available options and pick the one that suits you best. Nevertheless, the findings from our review indicate that Crossplag may not be the best option out there.
