Jenni AI is a service with a 2.6-star average rating based on 88 reviews on external review sites, which indicates that customers’ opinions vary. Jenni AI is ranked 8th among AI writing tools on our list, with a 3.5 out of 5.0 score.
If you look at the review sources at TrustPilot, you can see that most of the positive reviews have an ‘Invited’ indicator, which means that the service has prompted their customers to leave that review. Those reviews often mention ease of use, clarity and efficiency.
The negative reviews, however, often mention being charged even after canceling their subscription, the impossibility of getting a Jenni AI refund, and the steep price.
We ran all those reviews through an AI detector and discovered that they were human-written, although the positive ones did sound robotic and had approximately the same length, which may indicate they were just well-paraphrased to avoid the detectors.
Let’s take a deeper dive into Jenni AI writer and look at the features that it offers.
Our thoughts on Jenni AI
Jenni AI is a writing and research tool that uses generative AI to help students write academic papers. The idea sounds great, though in the course of our review, we’ve found some issues. But let’s talk positives first.
The tool can almost immediately generate an outline based on your academic level and the prompt that’s been given to it. If the prompt is simple, it will create an outline that is shorter and less detailed, and the other way round.
As you hover the cursor over the empty sections, the tool starts proposing text. You can either accept it and move on or regenerate the paragraph. Once you’ve accepted the text, you can’t regenerate it without spending the daily word limit.
While writing, you can also insert images, tables, and blocks of code. The mechanics are quite simple and easy to operate. Additionally, there are tutorials in the bottom left menu.
What can Jenni AI do for you?
What is Jenni AI? Let us tell you. When testing this service, we tried both the free and paid versions to create a detailed and comprehensive review for our readers.
We ordered a Master’s level paper and chose ‘Standard headings.’ The other options were ‘No outline’ and ‘Creative headings.’ As for the prompt, we used a topic on change management and organizational resilience.
The tool quickly came up with a standard outline for this kind of paper.
Jenny AI can use your own references to generate a paper. This feature is called the Library. You can upload PDF or .bib files, or even paste a DOI. The Library is a very useful tool that is quite easy to use. You can write your papers based on those sources or simply have all your necessary readings stored in one place. If you don’t submit your own sources, Jenny AI will pull peer-reviewed academic sources from the Internet.
The issue we discovered immediately while generating the document was that in the Literature review section, the tool kept on referencing the same source. Additionally, it barely paraphrased or analyzed the readings. Instead, it inserted them as quotes, but without referencing them as such. There were also citations in the conclusion section.
Jenni AI chat, support & assistance
Reaching Jenni AI support is possible via their AI chatbot, chat with human support, and email.
You can use the AI chatbot to help you write better prompts or for general tips on using the service. The AI tool works quite well. Most of the answers we received were accurate and on topic. Among other questions, we asked how Jenni AI recovers the sources, and we got a comprehensive, convincing answer. The chatbot also guided us through the writing process with its suggestions for prompts.
In the bottom left corner, there is a ‘Tutorials’ tab. It’s great for new users. The knowledge base is conveniently categorized and quite detailed. Tutorials are also available in video form.
If you want to speak to a human support agent, you need to click ‘Help’ right under the tutorials section. Connecting to a human will take a little bit longer, but it’s worth the wait if you have a more complicated question.
Email is another means of communication that Jenni AI offers. However, we sent several emails, and, unfortunately, never got a reply.
How to use Jenni AI for writing?
You can definitely use Jenny AI to create a well-written and deeply researched academic paper. However, you will need to edit, rewrite, and add to what the AI generates.
It’s a well-known fact that AI tools are incapable of critical thinking, analysis, and coming up with original ideas. Unfortunately for AI tools, those are the main requirements for a highly-esteemed academic paper.
As we’ve already mentioned, Jenni AI used the same source throughout the entire Literature review section. It would be appropriate if the paper was, in fact, a review of that one source, but for a Master’s level paper on business that uses a systematic literature review approach, one source is not enough.
Another point worth mentioning is that the tool did not add a thesis statement in the introduction and obviously did not justify it in the conclusion. The conclusion did not analyze or summarize the findings and even included citations.

At first glance, the free version seems like a good idea. Yet, upon closer inspection, it’s easy to realize that the tool is not meant to be used free of charge.
The free version only allows you to generate 200 words per day. With the paid subscription, generative AI is unlimited.
With the free version, writing a 5-page paper that we use as a standard for our reviews, took a whole week.
If you do manage to write a paper within their 200-word per day limit, the reference list is hidden behind a paywall. Sure, you can look up each citation using the author’s name, date, and keywords. Yet, it’s very cumbersome, considering you are already using a tool that’s meant to help you write. And don’t forget that you’ll need to format those references manually or using another tool.
The premium Jenni AI price is $30/month if billed monthly, or $12/month if billed annually. The discount for the annual billing is significant, but over time the yearly cost amounts to a whopping $144. At the same time, we received two discount offers from the support team, one for 10% off on checkout, and another one for 30% the first month.
‘Access to the latest features is mentioned as one of the perks of the paid subscription. Yet, it is unclear what exactly that means.
Revisions, refunds, & edits
A very convenient feature that Jenny AI offers is the ability to regenerate the proposed text. As you hover over the empty page, it proposes to fill the section according to the heading above. If you are not satisfied with what the tool has written, you can regenerate the text over and over.
At the same time, all those edits add up to the 200 words per day limit.
To thoroughly review Jenni AI, we spent two weeks trying to get an essay using the free version. As we’ve mentioned before, there were still many issues with the literature review, thesis statement, and conclusion. As a result, we had to rewrite, edit, and add a lot of content from scratch.
According to many reviews online, receiving a refund from Jenny AI is nearly impossible. Their policy states the following:
‘In most cases, payments for Jenni AI subscriptions and enterprise licenses are not refundable.’
According to TrustPilot reviews, however, some people were able to get their money back when they’ve been charged after cancelling their subscription. The Jenny AI support staff on TrustPilot do reply to the negative reviews and seem to care to resolve their customers’ issues.
Free vs. premium account: writing speed
The 200 words per day limit significantly slows the speed at which one can write an essay. Buying a subscription obviously solves that issue, but not everyone can afford that.
A 5-page paper would amount to approximately 1250 words. If you accept every suggestion, it will take you at least 7 days to generate a paper of that size. As we’ve already mentioned, every new suggestion adds to the 200-word limit.
It’s worth mentioning that even in the free version, you can copy all the content and insert it into another text editor to keep writing or editing for free.
If you use a premium version, the amount of content you can generate is not limited. The references are also available for your review. Surely, you can create a full essay much faster that way, but the issues with the lack of analysis still stand.
Is Jenni AI plagiarism free?
In the course of our research, we did find some issues with Jenni AI plagiarism. The test essay we generated on the first try was 200 words and contained 13% of plagiarism. The tool inserted a sentence from the source with barely any changes to it. There was a citation at the end of that sentence, but by the academic writing standards, that was a poorly paraphrased quote, hence, plagiarism.
It is also clear as day that the text is generated by AI. Every detector we ran the complete essay through flagged it as 100% AI-generated. This should not be news to anyone, yet it’s worth mentioning. We would not recommend submitting an essay written by Jenni AI as your own.
Jenni AI: Pros and Cons
Jenni AI can be a useful tool for research because it provides citations for statements that are not common knowledge. It’s also worth noting that the tool mostly uses recent sources – the oldest source was from 2017.
At the same time, we would not recommend using it for academic writing, only research. The issue we’ve mentioned with the review of literature can get an inexperienced student in big trouble. Also, what Master’s level paper does not feature a thesis statement?
For the cost of a monthly subscription, you can buy a custom-made paper written by a professional, experienced human writer in a much faster time frame.

Is Jenni AI legit?
Generally, yes. It’s a legitimate online service that uses Stripe checkout. It is categorized as PCI Service Provider Level 1, which is the safest category among payment systems. At the same time, the inability to receive a refund and the lack of a trial period raise many flags.
Is Jenni AI free?
Jenni AI does offer a free version, yet, it is made specifically in a way that urges a user to upgrade. The free version is strictly limited and hides many useful functions behind a paywall.
Is Jenni AI good?
Jenni AI is a good research tool if you are looking for something specific and need quick help. Sometimes, browsing through endless categories on JSTOR or even Google Scholar may take a lot more time than expected. With the help of Jenni AI, you can find the sources you need much quicker.
Is Jenni AI a scam?
We do not think that Jenni AI is a scam service. Yes, there are some issues with the wrongful charges, but they mostly occur due to bugs and system lags. Generally, when you buy a subscription from Jenni AI, you get what you paid for.
Is Jenni AI safe?
As often happens, Jenni AI’s privacy policy is obscure and nonspecific. They do collect personal data, like emails and names, but the actual cases when they do it are not specified. The company does not rent or sell personal data to anyone. Yet, how safely that data is stored is not revealed.
Is Jenni AI worth it?
From our personal experience, we do not find it worthy. It poses itself as a writing tool, yet one cannot use the complete paper to submit to class instead of their own. As a research tool, it’s quite good, yet there are lots more cheaper or even free research tools that students can use.
