Based on 321 user comments on various review aggregation platforms, Numerade has a rating of 2.7 stars out of 5.0. Such a rating indicates that most of the customers are not satisfied with what the service has to offer. Numerade is an online platform that aims at making STEM education meaningful and fun. Yet, multiple negative comments call the platform a scam and advise to stay away from it.

The result of the investigation is this Numerade.com review. But if we were to jump ahead of ourselves, yet to keep suspense that will make you continue reading to learn the details, we must admit that the service is not as impressive as it claims to be. It made us doubt the platform’s allegation that it is trusted by 100 million students from top schools around the world.  

So, fasten your seatbelts; we are going to reveal whether the service can be trusted and information that we found on how to cancel Numerade subscription — it’s going to get important quite soon.

Numerade was launched in Los Angeles in 2018. The main thing that the site offers is step-by-step videos on STEM. In its six years on the market, the company had gained a value of $100 million. Also, as the company claims, it is trusted by over 100 million students from around the world.

The value of the company is true, but the claim about the number of students that trust the company is doubtful, as the platform has also accumulated numerous negative reviews online. For example, its rating on ScamAdviser is 1 out of 100. And why is that? Our Numerade review will try to find out.

But a deep dive into the heart of darkness is much easier than it seems. Numerade has quite an easy-to-navigate website that offers you to actually learn what you learned. Among the options offered are textbooks, asking a tutor, online bootcamps, and study groups.

Textbooks may already make you wonder why on Earth you would want to use this service. Don’t you have textbooks already?

But don’t worry, they are presented in the form of short videos. Basically, everything on the platform caters to knowledge in the video format.

So, after sorting out more or less what is Numerade, we need to figure out where all those negative comments are coming from. After all, everything seems so far so good. But as you browse through the service’s website, red flags become more and more obvious.

As you scroll down the site, you get to the “what students are saying” section. The section begins with the claim that 97% of students report better grades after using the platform. And there’s even a video testimonial, which is quite logical for such a video-centric platform. But there is one little problem with that testimonial.

Not that we expected 100 million video testimonials, but having only one testimonial is quite suspicious. And there are problems like that everywhere. We are going to discuss them in detail in further sections, but the lack of information is overwhelming.

No matter where you click, you cannot find information that you may need. Information on educators? Here are a few comments. Information on the subscription? Don’t expect to see the price there.

In other words, studying everything beyond the homepage of Numerade’s website should frustrate anyone who plans to use the service.

Not much, to be frank. We thought that there was a live chat to communicate with the support team. Unfortunately, neither the website nor the app version of the service provides you with the option. So, how to contact Numerade?

Scroll down to the bottom of the website, find the Support section in the lower-right corner of the screen, and click on “Help.” There, you can find information on how to manage your subscription, the FAQ section, and the request submission form.

We opted for the latter. You need to enter your name, your email address, and your question. We decided to inquire about the negative reviews.

Mind that there’s no information about the approximate response time. We hope that we’ll get a reply by the time this review gets published. The unresponsiveness of the support team is not the leading theme in Numerade negative reviews, but it’s in a runner-up position, and our experience allows us to understand why.

It’s rather strange that a company that is valued at $100 million cannot afford to hire a support team that will operate in the live chat. Given that Numerade is an ed-tech company, a chatbot would’ve been quite helpful. Chatbots, at least, don’t ignore inquiries.

Numerade claims to provide students with help from more than 60,000 extraordinary educators from around the globe. When we were checking the “Our Educators” section, we got a bit confused.

You see, there are 354 pages of educators in the section, with 20 education per page. We are far from being math experts, but we know how to use calculators, and 20 × 354 = 7,080, which is a far cry from 60,000+ educators.  When you check the educators individually, some of them have more or less detailed bios, and others don’t; some of them have multiple user testimonials, and others don’t.

Another thing that confused us a bit about the number of educators came up when we got to the “Ask Our Educators” section. We checked the section on multiple occasions, at different times of the day, on different days of the week, and the number of educators online was always between 120 and 250.

Once again, we are not math experts, but shouldn’t the number of educators online be a bit higher when the platform has over 60,000 of them? It seems that 7,000+ educators is a more realistic number, yet Numerade thinks it’s not big enough for the platform’s promotion.

When we came to the question, “How much is Numerade?” we went to the billing section. As you can see from the capture, there’s no information about the pricing. To learn anything about the pricing, we had to google it.

After browsing through the search results, we finally came across the link to the article on Numerade’s website called “Chegg vs Numerade: A Features Comparison.” Yes, if you need to learn anything about Numerade’s pricing, you need to find this obscure article. Speaking of the comparison, Chegg was confusing, yet unlike Numerade, Chegg has a live chat, even if it’s useless. The comparison article doesn’t mention that.

Yet the article provides incorrect information on the monthly and annual plans’ prices. They are listed as $18.99 per month and $179.88 per year. While in reality, the monthly plan is $19.99, and the yearly one is $119.88. But you won’t learn it until you subscribe.  

There are no discounts, but there’s a referral program that “allows you to share all the incredible content on Numerade with your friends and classmates.” Isn’t that cool?

And there are no refunds. Once your subscription is canceled ‒ more on that later ‒ you’re going to be billed, depending on your plan, either $19.99 or $119.88 in advance.

Now, let’s talk about the quality of assistance that you can get from the Numerade educators. They are promoted as extraordinary, after all.

Yes, you can always go through the video version of the textbook, but you know it may not be that helpful.

We chose biology among the offered question topics and requested the description of cockroaches’ copulation. Before you click on the “Ask Question” button, the list of related questions and answers pops up. Among the list that we got, there was nothing remotely close to our request, although most of the questions had something to do with cockroaches. So, we clicked on “Ask Question” and started waiting for the reply.

Once we got the answer, we cannot say that it was extraordinary. Basically, you can google all that. The same goes for psychology: you can find all the information you need online.

If you’re not good at algebra, the service can come in handy. When it comes to equations, the platform is pretty good.

Now, remember that Numerade offers you the opportunity to actually learn what you learned? Not really, as you cannot ask the extraordinary educators when you have some additional questions because there are no live sessions with tutors.

No live sessions with educators? So, it’s not like you pick an educator and ask him a question?

Not at all. You ask a question and wait several hours till the educator will record a video answer to it. Based on the reviews on Numerade that we’ve checked when preparing for our investigation, the average waiting time is three hours.

We got our reply within four hours, so between three and five hours would be a more realistic time frame for the reply. So, if you need an immediate answer, probably look elsewhere or try additional options ‒ there are two of them.

1) Instead of clicking “Ask Question,” you can click “Instant Answer” and get one that may or may not be related to your question.

2) Another option is to use Ace service’s AI Tutor. But you see, Ace will provide you with the same googled information that you could have googled yourself. And you need to be careful with how you pose the question, as sometimes Ace fails to provide an answer.

All in all, Ace is quite good, and it’s cool that it’s available for free, as the answers it gives you are not worth either $19.99 per month or $119.88 per year.

Now, we are getting to the most interesting part: how to cancel Numerade subscription. You see, when you browse through Numerade reviews, you are inevitably going to bump into numerous negative comments complaining about being charged after canceling the subscription.

You can easily learn how to delete Numerade account and subscription in the Help section. Besides, it’s quite intuitive. Check your profile, select “billing” and click “cancel,” then go back to your profile and click “delete account,” and then “erase personal data.” So, where’s the trick?

Not where, but when. When you subscribe to Numerade, you need to opt for a seven-day trial. To avoid getting charged for it, it’s better to cancel your subscription on the sixth day of the free trial.

If you don’t opt for a free trial and decide to cancel your subscription, you’re going to be charged in advance based on the plan that you chose, with no refund possibilities. Yes, it looks scammy, but it’s according to the service’s Terms & Conditions; thus, it’s legit.

Numerade’s website is user-friendly, everything math-related is good, and the Ace AI tutor is okayish. The overwhelming absence of crucial information on the website is depressing. The number of tutors is far less than what is promised, and there are no live sessions with them.

Numerade’s support team is unreachable, and there’s no live chat. You need special knowledge on how to delete a Numerade account without getting charged for it. And the service doesn’t provide anything substantial to justify its cost.

Finally, we shouldn’t forget about the absence of refund options.
