Assignment Geek: First Look
Assignment Geek reviews vary a lot across different platforms: as you can see, it has a less than satisfactory rating of 3.6/5 on Trustpilot but a decent 4.7/6 on Sitejabber. Some clients are happy with the service’s quality, prices, and communication; others claim it to be one of the worst experiences they’ve had in the academic writing industry.
It’s a typical academic writing service where students (and occasionally working professionals) order essays, research papers, and other academic and non-academic writing assignments. Every assignment has a deadline, and the service promises that every client receives a complete and ready-to-submit paper by that deadline.
If you’ve ever used a writing service like that, there won’t be anything new about Assignment Geek you will find. However, with how competitive the industry is, we would like our readers to order papers only from the best, which is the purpose of our Assignment Geek review.
Assignment Geek Review: What We Have Found
To get to the bottom of things and write the ultimate Assignment Geek review, we have studied the online reviews and then put ourselves in a customer’s shoes to see how good Assignment Geek is. To do so, we ordered a 5-page Graduate-level essay on education (our chosen topic was Self-Efficacy in Language Learning). If you're comparing services, you may also want to check out a detailed WritePapers review to see how the two compare and contrast.
The deadline we chose was 24 hours. In our experience, this is enough for a competent writer to research the topic thoroughly, find relevant scholarly sources, and write a decent paper—even if it has a higher academic level and is more challenging than most (which was the case with our Graduate-level education essay).
We also attached detailed instructions and recommended sources when filling out the order form. It was important for our assignment that the writer follow everything to the tee and actually read (or at least skim-read) the required readings.
Our verdict is far from positive. Based on everything we experienced during our experience with Assignment Geek, we can’t rate it any higher than 2.5/5. But we understand that most of our readers want more details. So, let’s dive in.
How Convenient Placing an Order on Assignment Geek Is
One of the first things we noticed about Assignment Geek is the complete lack of price transparency. Most academic writing services have an on-site calculator that allows potential clients to calculate the price of their order before they even place it (based on the number of pages, academic level, and deadline).
That’s not an option if you’re using Assignment Geek. First, the only information about the service’s prices on the website is that the prices start at $5.85 per 100 words. That’s already confusing, seeing as Assignment Geek’s competitors always reveal prices per page instead of per 100 words.
A typical page is about 275-300 words long. So, basically, Assignment Geek wants you to calculate the price on your own (without revealing that the price goes up if you’re ordering a higher academic level than high school or need a paper more urgently than in two weeks). We don’t think it’s fair.
Also, Assignment Geek is very vague when describing its writers. There’s no typical “Our Writers” page; all you get is a “Top 2%” page that describes the screening process every new writer has to go through. Once again, such a lack of transparency is alarming.
Assignment Geek’s Customer Support Team
If you think Assignment Geek’s customer support team helps new clients make sense of the website’s weird design and lack of essential information—such as prices and detailed writers’ profiles—you’re wrong. When we couldn't understand how much our paper would cost, we contacted the support using the live chat on the website.
We wanted someone from the support team to explain how everything worked and help us choose a suitable writer for the essay we were about to order. Instead, after at least 30 minutes of waiting, we were told we would know the final price after placing the order.
As to the best-suited writer, we were told, “Assignment Geek will make sure to offer your order to the most competent experts with relevant experience.” We’ve been analyzing and reviewing academic writing services long enough to know that that’s just meaningless word salad. It doesn’t say anything, and it does nothing to reassure a potential customer that their paper is in good hands.
Sadly, this first interaction with Assignment Geek’s support set the tone for our entire experience with the service. We didn’t find the support team helpful whatsoever.
Who Are Assignment Geek’s Writers, and How Competent Are They?
According to Assignment Geek, the service selects only the top 2% of the experts who apply for writing positions at the service. The website claims that the hiring steps every would-be Assignment Geek writer has to go through are the resume screening, language exam, phone interview, trial assignment, and - once they become part of the team - continuous review.
All of those are very standard, so we don’t know why Assignment Geek decided to post this information on the website instead of making actual writers’ profiles visible to potential clients even before they are registered.
The only confusing part of this screening process is the language exam. What it tells us is that Assignment Geek’s writers likely aren’t native English speakers, which is yet another reason to stay away from the service. We were hoping that the writer’s subject area expertise would outshine their language use, but that’s not what happened. We’ll discuss this below.
How Expensive Is Assignment Geek? Prices and Discounts
If you use the “$5.85 per 100 words” formula to calculate the price of your order, it will amount to about $16 per page, which is higher than the industry average. We know many great academic writing services (much better than Assignment Geek) that charge about $11 per page of a high school-level order.
In turn, $16 per page is a standard price for non-urgent undergraduate-level orders. Seeing as Assignment Geek’s writers aren’t even native English speakers, we don’t see how the price is justified.
However, that’s not even the realistic price you can expect at Assignment Geek unless you’re a high school student and give the writer 10+ days to complete your assignment. The price will increase significantly if you have a higher academic level or need a paper sooner. For example, as we ordered a graduate-level essay with a 24-hour deadline, the price per page we paid was about 30% higher than the alleged “$5.85 per 100 words.”
To be fair, Assignment Geek does offer a 5% discount to new clients, but that’s not particularly generous. For example, the WritePapers promo code for first-time customers can help you save much more. Check it out!
Revision Policy
One of the key aspects of every academic writing service is its revision policy. This refers to whether or not the service guarantees that once a customer receives the first draft of their paper, they can request a revision and get it for free (assuming it’s the writer’s fault that the paper needed revising). Most services offer free revisions even if it wasn't the writer’s fault, provided the requested edits aren't too major.
While our overall experience with Assignment Geek was disappointing, we must acknowledge that the service’s revision policy is fine. After we received the first draft of the paper and noticed that the writer had failed to follow one of the points from our initial instructions, we pointed it out to them in a message. They agreed to revise our paper immediately. However, there would be no need for this had they nailed the requirements on the first try.
Deadlines and Urgent Orders on AssignmentGeek.com
The shortest deadline Assignment Geek offers is 3 hours (only if you’re ordering up to 3 pages, though). So, in theory, it should be a problem if you need your paper ASAP, except the price will increase exponentially.
However, that might not be the case, and here’s why. As discussed, the 5-page essay we ordered had a 24-hour deadline. We didn’t receive the first draft of the paper until the last minute. Once we looked at the draft, we saw that not only did the writer fail to follow part of our instructions, but they also clearly lacked subject area expertise, especially considering that we ordered a graduate-level assignment.
We requested some edits, and the revision took the writer about two hours more. As a result, we didn’t get the final draft until 2 hours past our original deadline. If we had a due date looming, we would miss it.
Plagiarism and Academic Integrity
Another essential aspect of every academic writing service is its attention to originality and anti-plagiarism policies. Over the years, we've realized that when our readers ask something like, “Is Assignment Geek legit?” that’s one of the things they’re curious about the most.
Similarly to 99% of competitors, Assignment Geek claims that every paper its writers complete is completely original and thoroughly checked using the service’s internal plagiarism-detecting tool. But we wouldn’t be the most thorough academic writing service reviewers without double-checking everything.
We found that while our paper didn’t contain any outright plagiarism, some of the in-text citations were formatted incorrectly. Some professors consider this one of the forms of plagiarism and deduct their students’ grades for that. If you decide to order a paper from Assignment Geek, we highly recommend you double-check everything. Violating academic integrity in any way is beyond risky.
Assignment Geek’s Pros and Cons: What We Did and Didn’t Like
Summing up our Assignment Geek review, let’s look at the list of all the pros and cons we identified when testing the service. Spoiler alert: as you can probably guess from the 2.5/5 score we gave the service and everything you’ve read up to this point, the list of pros will be significantly shorter.
