Ultius Review 2024:
‍Find Out Everything You Need About This Platform

Based on 450 comments on various review aggregators, Ultius is rated 3.1 stars, signifying an average level of customer satisfaction. However, multiple users cite orders canceled at the last moment and condemn the overall Ultius writing quality. All in all, Ultius ranks 19th among academic writing platforms, with a 3.1 out of 5.0 score.

After passing the surface level of comments calling the service excellent and stating that it epitomizes the gold standard for online writing services, we went deeper and found out that “something is rotten in the state of Denmark.” Rude customer support? Seen that. Delayed orders? Seen that, too. Overall poor quality of work? Been there, done that. But orders canceled by the writer at the last minute with no explanation are something new.

And it’s rather strange, considering the fact that Ultius is the service where customers can block and even report writers. We must acknowledge it’s quite an interesting addition to a writing platform. But that is far from being the only problem with Ultius.

The first thing we were interested in finding out after checking Ultius.com reviews was ‒ what does “Ultius” mean?

You see, the service provides the answer, claiming that the name comes from the Latin word “utilis,” which means “useful.” However, those responsible for picking up the name of the platform blundered a bit. The word “ultius” is actually one of the forms of the Latin verb “ultus,” which means “to take revenge on” or “to avenge.”

Does that mean that the service is going to avenge its customers by providing them with excellent writing? But excellent writing is doubtful here, as the service obviously misinterpreted its own name.

And there’s no sign of vengeance in the description of what the service is about. According to the information in the “About Us” section, since 2010, Ultius remains the global leader in custom writing (to be fair, we are not so sure about that) that is obsessed with customer satisfaction. The main goals of the service are to eliminate student loans, help students get the best writing assistance, and allow writers to monetize their talent.

So, let’s figure out where the obsession with customer satisfaction leads and how it can eliminate student loans.

Honestly, our first attempt at reaching out to the customer support team of the Ultius paper writing service was pretty confusing.

You see, when you scroll down the main page, you can find the chat symbol. Click on it and…nothing will happen. Possibly a glitch.

If you need to truly get in touch with the customer support team, you need to click on the “Live Chat” option in the upper-right corner of the page. There, you need to leave your name and email to start the chat. As soon as you type down your first message, you get a notification that you’re going to be reached as soon as possible.

How soon was that? Not that soon. Throughout our investigations, we came across a customer support team that replied within ten minutes or within one hour, but never one that won’t reply at all.

Actually, days later, upon requesting a refund, we found out that we got an email from the support representative, which was the reply to our chat request. Well, we are glad we got a reply, but we requested communication via live chat, not email.

So, not only does the service exhibit a poor command of Latin, which, unless you are a medical student, is forgivable, but a lack of basic understanding of what the live chat is for.

So, what can be said about Ultius writers that the service so vehemently presents as the ambassadors of excellent writing?

Well, we were expecting that we would be able to take a sneak peek at writers before ordering any papers, but that wasn’t the case, unfortunately.

You see, there is no writer’s section on the website. There’s only a “writer options” section, which shows what type of writer you can get and how it’s going to affect the pricing. You can block or report a writer so they won’t be assigned to you anymore. But it is the service that chooses the writer for your task.

So, we ordered a five-page essay on Joyce Carol Oates’ short story “Where Are You Going? Where Have You Been?”. We left instructions that the paper should analyze whether the short story was a time capsule or a timeless piece.

Less than an hour later, an Ultius writer was assigned. There’s an option to communicate directly with the writer, so we expected them to ask us for clarification, but they did not.

We even asked the writer if everything was clear, and they assured us it was. You will discover if our instructions were truly clear to them in later sections.

The rules for requesting a revision are quite simple. You need to request a revision within a week after the order is completed.

We didn’t have to wait for a week to ask for the order to be revised. At first glance, the paper looked okay. But digging into the paper, we figured out that it was a wordy piece that kinda stated: “Where Are You Going? Where Have You Been?” is a time capsule as it carries the essence of the 1960s, when it was written and published, but is timeless because it is still impactful.” “After all this 2024 essay is also about this story” – no joking, that’s the quote from the essay.

Is Ultius legal? Yes, it is, but that doesn’t prevent writers from confusing the requested undergraduate essay with a high school one. So, we requested a revision with lengthy feedback on the writer's work attached.

The revised version seemed better at first, but it contained even more problems that we’re going to discuss in the next sections.

Eventually, we requested a refund — via email, as we’ve lost hope in live chat. And we were offered more revisions. Yet, we declined the offer.

Going through the negative Ultius essay reviews, mentioning the delayed orders is not that frequent. And we must admit that despite all the flaws of the service, our paper was delivered on time.

Now, our investigation aside, let’s talk about the deadlines in general. The minimum deadline is three hours, while the maximum one is 60 days.

Obviously, the deadline impacts the price. Remember the lowest per-page price, $17.50? That’s the price for a one-page high school essay with a deadline of twenty days.

Does that mean that putting a maximum deadline of sixty days will decrease the price to $10? Nope, it will cost you $16. And the price for the undergraduate essay with a maximum deadline is $18.

Every second negative Ultius review mentioned that the essay they’ve received was either partially or completely plagiarized.

So, what the revised version was in terms of plagiarism? We ran it through several plagiarism detectors and were stunned by the results. On average, the detectors showed between 73% and 75% of plagiarized material.

To be fair, it’s rather difficult to say something new about “Where Are You Going? Where Have You Been?”. Since its publication in 1966, the short story has been analyzed to exhaustion. But that’s no excuse for blatant plagiarism.

The revised version defended the concept of the short story being timeless by pointing out the themes of female sexuality, social imbalance, and Christian symbolism that it contains. And it was hands-down re-written (or should we say copied and pasted?) from three other essays that delved into those three themes separately.

And all that ‒ for $107.50 that we were lucky to get back.

Is Ultius a good service? Based on our experience, not remotely.

The support, to put it lightly, is unresponsive unless you need a refund. But a refund won’t be given that easily, as the service will emphatically suggest opting for revisions.

The revisions won’t help as well, as they can turn the generic essay that you got initially into a paper that contains over 70% plagiarized content.

All that ‒ for a price higher than those offered by most writing platforms.

Still, Ultius sticks to deadlines and has an easy-to-navigate website.
