Essay Bot Review: Looking for the Best AI Writer? Look Elsewhere!

If you check the SiteJabber page of EssayBot, you will learn that the service managed something other services didn’t struggle to achieve: zero positive reviews. At the time of writing, the service has 24 comments on various reviews aggregators. Two of them are 2-star reviews, and twenty-two of them ‒ 1-star. Former customers cite multiple technical issues, factual inaccuracies in the produced paper, and an overall poor quality.

EssayBot states that if you’re in need of an essay writer, the service will provide you with an essay typer. In other words, the service won’t exactly craft a paper for you but suggest paragraphs and useful information while you’re writing. It doesn’t sound all that inspiring, right?

Well, zero positive reviews would’ve been enough to end this review. But, positive or negative reviews, we need to investigate to see whether they are far-fetched or not. And our investigation led us to some truly amazing findings.

Our Findings: A Case of a Mistaken Identity or a Changeling?

When you enter EssayBot’s website, it looks okay at first glance. The only thing that seems strange is that there are not many sections to go to. You’re presented with the basic information, which is how great the AI tool is.

And there are two options: to log in as an existing member or sign up as a new user. To be fair, the main page doesn’t prompt a visitor to sign up. Does the service have more in store so prospective users will find it worth a try?

EssayBot offers you to check out the articles generated by AI. You just need to scroll down to the bottom. Apparently, we have research on the late Canadian-American psychologist Albert Bandura. Bee Movie Script? Do they imply that EssayBot generated the whole script for that 2007 animated film? And a screenplay for Rosewood? What are those scripts doing there, and what does AI have to do with them?

If you’d like to find out, you won’t be able to. Click on any of the links, and you will get an error message.

But, hey, maybe those samples are available to registered users. You can sign up using any fake email you want; the service won’t care. But no luck here as well: clicking any of the above-mentioned links will lead to the same error messages.

Well, fine, let’s try generating an essay. Give the AI a title and stare at the message “Preparing start of your essay” as long as you want, as it will just stay like that:

Seems like EssayBot is pretty much defunct. So, what are we still doing here?

You see, the tool may be defunct, but that doesn’t mean that it is gone. If you try opening the mobile version of EssayBot — the same happens with a browser version in certain cases — you get redirected to EssayAILab.

And given that you can log in there with the same credentials you used for EssayBot, it’s the new incarnation of the service. So, let’s check it out:

So, EssayBot or EssayAILab? And How Does the Thing Work?

With a slew of negative reviews, it doesn’t seem all that surprising that the people behind EssayBot decided to simply create a different platform with pretty much the same functionality. But was it worth it? Let’s check it out.

Unlike EssayBot, EssayAILab doesn’t suggest that it has crafted the screenplays for long-forgotten blockbusters and critical darlings during times when an AI was struggling to produce a cohesive sentence. But the site looks poor, for the lack of a better word.

Check the main page, see what the service offers, click on “How it works,” and you’ll get back to the main page. Click “Features,” and you’ll get the same result. So, how does it work?

Give it a topic, and it will start searching for relevant information or what it considers to be relevant — more on that later. Write a sentence, and it will suggest how to paraphrase it.
Also, EssayAILab offers a plagiarism detector, grammar and spelling checkers, and an APA & MLA citation generator.

We know exactly what your question is by now: will it write your essay? The short answer is no, it won’t. Yet, as the service claims, it will make the process of writing much quicker. We’ll expand on this aspect a bit later.

What Can Be Said About EssayBot/EssayAILab Customer Support Service?

When you’re working with AI-driven service, human interaction is nonetheless important. After all, you’d like someone human who will explain what’s what. But, given that the original service had “bot” in its name, a chatbot would also be fine.

Unfortunately, there are no chatbots here. Imagine a situation where you need to contact some high-tech company and your reaction upon learning that the only way to get in touch with them is via mail. If you can imagine that, you may understand how we felt upon clicking “Contact Us” and learning that the only way to reach out to customer support is via email.

Well, apparently, the service is so simple that you won’t need any support. And it seems that it won’t get too glitchy anyway; otherwise, there would’ve been a phone line or a live chat.

By the way, when you click on “Contact Us,” you can once again see an option to check article samples. We tried just that and got yet another error message. Maybe the service is still under development. Maybe the article samples will appear later on. Who knows, maybe a phone line and live chat will appear later on.

As of now, the site looks as weird as EssayBot’s.

Can AI Replace Human Writers? EssayBot/EssayAILab Surely Can’t!

Toying with the EssayAILAb tool made us wonder how it could possibly make the process faster. You are offered to provide a descriptive essay title and a prompt. AI pretty much doesn’t care about the prompt, focusing solely on the title.

We decided to try something difficult first. We requested an essay on how upbringing can turn a child into a monster, which should work like an analysis of Iain Banks’ “The Wasp Factory.” The AI pretty much didn’t know what to suggest.

How do you like the prewritten paragraph about the “Supernatural” episode? Or how about an intro to an article about what you should do as a responsible parent?

But wait, the service has more to offer. How about a Loch Ness Monster or a race of monsters in human shape? So, the AI made a search based on the words “upbringing” and “monster,” and that’s it.

None of the prompts worked for us. We even tried to make the task easier for an AI and opted for a simple “The analysis of Iain Bank’s The Wasp Factory.” We must admit that one prewritten paragraph was more or less fine. Other paragraphs offered were about the analysis of AFL and CIO and included a lot of information about banks. The AI apparently doesn’t recognize “Banks” as the last name.

In a nutshell, if you want to work with prewritten paragraphs, you should opt for simpler topics. We decided to task it with a topic that is closer to its understanding, and we will expand on it in later sections.

It Is Free Unless You Want to Download Your Essay

When you google EssayAILab, you can see that it is presented as a “free essay writing tool.” When you browse through the website, you cannot find any information about prices. The section “prices” is non-existent. And when you sign up for the service, there’s no indication that you’re on a free trial or something.

So, you buy into the idea that EssayAILab is free. You continue to believe it while working on your paper. And then you may want to download your essay, but, surprise-surprise, it was a free trial! We wouldn’t be surprised if the platform ran into legal issues because of the misleading information it gives to the users.

The weekly plan will cost you $2.49 per week, or you can pay $9.95 per month, or you can opt for a yearly plan that will cost you $59.40. So, basically, the service tries its best to convince you that it is free, only to let you know about its prices when you’re done with your essay and want to download it.

Revision Policy at EssayBot/EssayAILab: It’s All ‘Bout Revising

Obviously, you can’t torture the tool with a complex essay, but not trying something simpler would be cheating you, dear reader. It’s AI, so we decided to check what it thinks about its chances of replacing humans at their jobs.

The paragraphs presented there were much more on point. We picked the one, and then we figured out that we were stuck with picking the proper variant and rewriting the paragraphs of our choice. Does that sound confusing? Well, we were pretty much confused, too:

So, once you choose one of the prewritten paragraphs, you can simply rewrite it. Also, you’re offered a number of paragraphs that convey the same meaning. You can add them to the first paragraph and rewrite them as well. So, we can put it this way: EssayAILab — ex-EssayBot — is LEGO, but in essay writing. And it works following a simple concept: add → rewrite → revise → add  → rewrite  → revise. Sounds like a lot of fun, doesn’t it?"

Will You Speed Up the Writing Process With EssayBot/EssayAILab?

We could’ve said something about EssayBot, but at the time of writing, it is still at the “Preparing start of your essay” stage. Well, it’s unlikely that it will speed up the process at all.

As for EssayAILab, you know how things with paragraphs work, so we decided to check out what will happen if we choose the “write on your own” option.

So, what do we have here? You might have expected that the service would suggest paraphrased sentences, synonyms, or better words. No, it just suggests random things that have little or nothing to do with whatever you’re writing:

Now, ask yourself whether suggestions like that can help you or anyone else with writing. Does rewiring paragraphs that don’t tie in with one another speed up the process? Does writing on your own with random suggestions speed up the process? Unlikely.

What Can Be Said About EssayBot/EssayAILab Plagiarism Checker?

So, what else does EssayAILab have in store for its users? It has a Plagiarism Checker. We came across several reviews praising the site’s plag detector, so we decided to test it out the simplest way.

We took a text from the first random article we found online. We ran it through EssayAILab’s plagiarism checker and several other checkers that we traditionally use for detecting plagiarized materials in texts produced by various custom writing services.

While other detectors showed between 80% and 95% of plagiarized content, EssayAILab’s checker showed that no plagiarism was found. That’s all you need to know about the service’s plag detector.

The Pros and Cons of Using EssayBot for Academic Writing

If you want EssayBot to generate an essay, you will be exposed to the phrase “Preparing start of your essay” for hours with no progress.

Alternatively, using the same credentials, you can log in to EssayAILab and try constructing your paper by rewriting random paragraphs that are more or less related to your subject. Or you can write it on your own, glancing perplexed at the random things that AI suggests to you.

In the end, you can use the service’s plagiarism checker, which identifies any random text taken from the web as unique.

To download or copy the produced text, you need to pay $2.49, $9.95, or $59.40 per week, month, or year, respectively.

Pros:
  • ✅ You can use the tool when you need several paragraphs on a simple topic
  • ✅ You get redirected to EssayAILab while EssayBot has technical problems
Cons:
  • ❌ The website has an unresponsive customer support service, which you can reach only via email
  • ❌ EssayAILab claims that it’s free, but it's not. You realize it only when trying to download the output
  • ❌ The prewritten paragraphs that the service offers don’t really help to construct a proper essay
  • ❌ The suggestions that AI makes when you opt for writing on your own make little to no sense
  • ❌ The plagiarism checker identifies plagiarized content as unique

EssayBot FAQs

What Is EssayBot and EssayAILab?

EssayBot was a service that offered an AI-powered tool that generated texts by paraphrasing existing works. EssayAILab is a new incarnation of EssayBot, which offers practically the same functionality.

Is EssayBot or EssayAILab Legit?

While we haven’t found any proof that either service is not legit, it is hard to state the opposite, either. For example, the service claims to be free, but customers must opt for a paid subscription to download their papers.

What Makes EssayBot/EssayAILab Stand Out?

Given our findings, the only thing that makes both services stand out is that users are expected to pay for writing essays on their own with irrelevant suggestions from the tool. It all looks like a not-too-subtle scam.

How Much Does EssayBot/EssayAILab Cost?

EssayAILab offers several paid plans: weekly, monthly, quarterly, half-year, and annual. The price of each plan, respectively, is $2.49, $9.95, $24.95, $45.90, and $59.40.

Can I Use Either of the Services on Smartphones?

In the mobile version, customers can use EssayAILab. The EssayBot site will automatically redirect to EssayAILab. The only way to get to EssayBot is via links in, say, review articles. Yet, the service is defunct.

Can Either of the Services Replace Expert Help?

No, neither EssayBot nor EssayAILab can replace expert help. The former is defunct, while the latter doesn’t speed up the writing process. If you’re seeking help with academic writing, you would be safe with a different, reliable service.
