“Academic writing is hard” — Thank You, Writefull, We Know That
At the time of writing, Writefull doesn’t have a single comment on any of the well-known review aggregation websites. We gave Writefull 2.0 stars out of 5 because it misses the functionality mark despite being inexpensive and having some nice features to offer. All in all, Writefull is ranked 30nd among AI academic assistants.
When you enter Writefull’s website, you are greeted with the phrase “Academic writing is hard.” Do you expect something a-la: but we make it easier? We have bad news for you. Academic writing is hard, period! The website states that Writefull helps you write, paraphrase, copyedit, and more… But no promises to make your academic writing somewhat easier. And rightfully so, or should we say, “writefully so”?
They are not lying. We can give Writefull that, at least they are being honest. The tool is helpful, but far from being perfect. So, fasten your seatbelts, we are launching a somewhat turbulent flight, answering the question “What is Writefull?” and explaining how it functions.
Writefull Online Service — Experience Academic Assistance Like Never Before?
Okay, you are not greeted with any promises when entering Writefull’s website, but promises start to pop up if you scroll down a bit. First, you are promised to experience language feedback like never before. Here, you learn that Writefull’s language models were trained on millions of journal articles, so editing suggestions are tailored for academic writing.
You are also promised clever AI widgets that will help you scribe your sentences. The good thing, though, is that Writefull uses an encrypted connection and doesn’t store whatever you are working on.
The service promises to help you not only with writing texts but with writing codes as well. Aside from that, you can get access to title, abstract, and citation generators, as well as to a paraphraser. And, most importantly, you get access to an academizer, the tool that will transform your casual writing into academic style.
It seems that you have a full pack of everything you need for your academic writing for quite a reasonable price — more on that later. But having everything is not enough. You need that said everything to function properly.
Do tools offered by Writefull function properly? Well, let’s find it out.

Getting Started With Writefull Account and Testing Features
Getting started with Writefull user account is pretty easy. Just click on “Log In” button and create your account. You are only required to provide your email address and create a password or use the one generated by the service.
Then, you need to check your email inbox to get the link for verification. After that, you are ready to go testing the tools.
You can use your account in free mode or upgrade to a premium one — more on the prices later. The account has a user-friendly interface, and you don’t have to wander around figuring out what’s what.
Despite the easy-to-navigate interface, brace yourself, as problems are going to start pretty much as soon as you start testing the features. At least that was our experience with the service.
Everything from the title generator to the academizer tool was freaking out, each in its particular way. This is what prompted us to contact the Writefull customer support team immediately.
Beyond Ridiculous Communication With Customer Support
No matter where you go, you won’t be able to find the live chat window to reach out to Writefull’s customer support team. And why is that? Because the progressive service that seemingly offers state-of-the-art AI-powered solutions for academic writing doesn’t have a live chat. Not even a chatbot.
Do you want to get in touch with Writefull’s customer support service? You’ll have to do it via email. Well, if email is the only means of communication, they should reply promptly, right? You won’t have to wait longer than an hour, right?
The error message that we got while testing one of the tools suggested that we should email the support team. We followed the suggestion and got the reply immediately, notifying us that the service was overwhelmed with requests — no surprise there — and that someone would get in touch with us within five days.
We could’ve just said that we picked the wrong day to check out Writefull customer support, but we didn’t get a reply after three days, when our investigation was pretty much over. The only thing that we can say is that Writefull shows impressive consistency, as the support team works pretty much like everything else the service has to offer.

The Constant Fails of Writefull’s Paraphraser and Academizer Tools
The first thing we wanted to check was the paraphraser tool. In most cases, paraphraser tools from services like Quillbot simply substitute words from the original text with synonyms and opt for passive voice where possible.
Is Writefull paraphrasing tool any different? The answer to your question would be: we don’t know. We toyed with the service for three days and got the same result over and over: Something went wrong, please try again later, followed by the suggestion to contact support if the issue persists.
So, for whatever reason, the paraphraser didn’t work. Then, we tried to transform our casual writing into an academic style. Unfortunately, something went wrong there, too, and we were advised to try again later or contact support. Trying again later led to the same results.
We can guess why there are no Writefull reviews on SiteJabber or TrustPilot. Most likely, the potential users tested the service, decided it was a joke, and opted to use something else. All in all, we find our experience with paraphraser and academizer tools preposterous.

Writefull AI Pricing: Reasonable Prices for Unreasonable Service

If there’s one thing that can be considered an ultimate benefit of the service, it’s the Writefull price. There are three plans that you can choose.
The monthly plan will cost you $7.21. You can opt for the quarterly plan, which has a price of $5.54 per month, but you are going to pay $16.62 every quarter. Finally, there’s a yearly plan. Opting for the latter means that the per-month price is $2.57, but you are going to be billed $30.75 annually.
To be fair, that’s cheaper than most AI services offer, given the fact that there are no difference between the packages, except for the billing period.
Moreover, you can use Writefull to its almost full extent for free. Yes, there are no features that you can find in the premium account that are unavailable in free mode. The only difference is the presence or absence of a daily quota. When you are using the service for free, the number of times you can use each of the apps is limited. After upgrading to premium, you won’t face any limitations.
Gladly, you can test everything for free, as Writefull refund policy states that you’re not going to be reimbursed.
Writefull Generates Abstracts That You Can Easily Craft Yourself
Writefull suggests you paste your paper, from the introduction to the conclusion, into the abstract generator. We have a better suggestion.
Take your paper, select the text starting from the second sentence of the introduction and to the penult sentence of the conclusion, and cut it out. The remaining two sentences, the first sentence of your introduction and the last sentence of the conclusion, will form the abstract.
Does that sound ridiculous? Well, that’s how Writefull’s abstract generator works. We tried different academic and non-academic texts. In all cases, the result was pretty much the same.
The funniest thing was when we loaded an article on ten fairly and unfairly forgotten Stephen King adaptations. The article ended with a review of the film. So, the abstract was something along the lines: Stephen King has forty-eight widescreen and thirty-four TV adaptations of his works. The convoluted release history, most likely, contributed to the movie’s fading into obscurity.
It worked almost the same with all the text. Sometimes, it took two sentences from the introduction and conclusion. Sometimes, it paraphrased them; other times, it didn’t. All in all, taking the first or the first few and the last or the last few sentences doesn’t sound like generating an abstract.

It’s Either Too Long or Too Short, That’s The Size Of It
Do you want Writefull to generate a Title for your paper? First, you need to create an abstract. Make sure that your abstract is not too short, which means that abstracts generated by Writefull won’t do. Also, you need to make sure that your abstract is not too long.
What is too short and too long in this case? Good question! If only we had the answer. You see, everything under 1000 words is too short. Everything under 2000 words is also too short. Texts over 4000 words are too long to generate the title.
So, our guess is that the perfect word count is somewhere between 3000 and 3500 words.
Here’s the question: How often do you see abstracts that are longer than 500 words? Yes, theses and dissertations can have longer abstracts, but they do not exceed 3000 words. Also, if the generator suggests you paste your abstract, you should expect the abstract generated by this AI tool will do.
Is Writefull AI Academic Assistant Even Worth Checking Out?
Is Writefull worth it? Only if you try it in the free mode. Unfortunately, we said farewell to our $7.21. We are glad that it wasn’t much. All in all, Writefull is a huge disappointment. Not budget-wrecking, but disappointment nonetheless. There is a tiny possibility that we happened to test it throughout three days when the website was in some kind of maintenance crisis or something, but that’s a reach.
All the tools tested either don’t work or don’t work as promised. Leaving the first and the last sentence is not generating an abstract. Paraphraser and academizer tools don’t work for reasons unknown, — hence we can’t even check their work for Writefull plagiarism — as the customer support service won’t respond to our messages. Even the title generator won’t work properly because there’s no way to figure out the word count of the abstract that is suitable for it.
Summing It Up: Some Benefits and Drawbacks of Writefull AI
Writefull is an inexpensive AI-powered academic assistant that is quite useless. So, benefits pretty much end with Writefull pricing. You can get access to all the features for free, which is a plus. None of them would work or work as advertised, which is a huge minus.
Whenever you run into an error, you’ll have to wait for days, hoping the support service will reply. Still, Writefull has a user-friendly interface, so at least you can find all the tools easily.
