EditPad Review 2024: Is It a Pointless Editing Tool or Something Better?

Based on 116 comments on review aggregators, EditPad has a rating of 2.0 stars. Customers cite the support team’s unresponsiveness, poor quality of papers, and overall worthlessness of the service. With a score of 2.0 out of 5.0 stars, Edit Pad places 61st among the paper writing services we reviewed.

That all seems fine and dandy, right? You can even say suggestive, for the lack of a better word. Keep that illusion for a while, as it’s going to be ruthlessly shattered upon entering the website.

The website will give you the impression that you’ve traveled back to the mid-1990s. You may end up staring at the screen for several minutes, simultaneously trying to understand what’s what and not believing your eyes.

Okay, but poor design doesn’t necessarily mean bad quality, right?

Unfortunately, in this case, it does. Not only does the service have a mid-1990s design, but it’s also as glitchy as the technology of that time.

If you google Edit Pad reviews, the results that you will find on the first page will amaze you. You will find headings ranging from “The Unimpressive Essay Writer” to “Total Scam.” There’s even an article called “The Disadvantages of Using EditPad”: not the traditional Advantages and Disadvantages but strictly the latter.

Of course, we were intrigued. Yes, we could simply rely on the reviews that already exist, but what if they’re far-fetched? We can forget about suspense here for a minute and simply state that our assumption was absolutely wrong.

Let’s be fair: when you look at the Macintosh II, you don’t expect it to have the same functionality as the MacBook Pro.

Based on the information that we have, people got a chance to use the EditPad tool for the first time in 2021. Yet, the overall impression is that the service was launched sometime in the 1990s and never experienced an update since then. But we know that AI-powered writing tools didn’t exist two decades ago. Why is the design so dated, then?

But we are getting off-topic here. So, what can be said about the service based on what it promises?

You get a fast, AI-powered essay writing tool that crafts unique texts that avoid AI detection. Sounds good, right? It’s fast when it’s not glitching. And it does glitch a lot. As for avoiding AI detectors, we’ll expand on it in the next sections.

You read that correctly. There are two types of subscriptions. One type gives you an option to communicate with the support team only via email. The other type, however, gives you a second option to reach out to it.

We first decided to check out what we could get from the EditPad online writing tool in free mode.

We tasked it with an essay on the role of dolphins during the Cold War and the impact it had on popular culture. As you can see in the capture, for a generic up to 500-word essay, it fared pretty well:

Yet, we have to acknowledge the fact that you can get the same results by simply copying and pasting whatever you find on the subject in Google. However, we had a more complex essay in mind, and we needed to check whether things would be different in the subscription plan.

We wanted an essay on the same topic but one that would expand on John C. Lilly’s experiments and films they inspired: Mike Nichols’ “The Day of the Dolphin” (1973) and Ken Russel’s “Altered States” (1980).

As you can see, the essay crafted in free mode mentioned the former film but had no clue about who Lilly was.

So, did we get a better essay after purchasing a subscription? No, just an extended version of the one we got in free mode. And there’s no way to notify the software what to expand on.

Yes, it was the most worthless purchase made with no option to get reimbursed — more on that in the next section.

Okay, but it’s called EditPad; thus, essay writing is not its main focus. So, what about other features that the service offers?

As the name suggests, you can edit your texts using the tool. As we’ve already mentioned above, you can type in the editing field, copy and paste the text that you want to edit or upload it, and start editing.

How much is it different from, say, Google Docs or any word processor? Your guess is as good as ours. This feature makes opting for the paid subscription pointless.

Is there anything else in store that makes the service worth a try?

Okay, there’s a Grammar Checker. Type something incorrectly, and it will provide you with suggestions on how to ameliorate the text. In which way is it different from the Language Tool or free version of Grammarly? In absolutely no way.

Would you like to pay $7 or $9 per week for the same results that you can get for free? Or would you like to pay $29 per month or $199 annually for something that you can get for free? Not worth your money, if you ask us.

Is there anything else that can make using this service worthy of your investment?
 
Yes, there’s a paraphrasing tool! Is it helpful? In the capture, you can find an example of the way it paraphrased the previous paragraph:

As you can see, it’s basically the same text. It opted for synonyms in certain places. Swapping “there” with “here” is a brilliant move on the tool’s side.

So far, EditPad.org additional features are something that you can get for free from other services. And considering the abilities of its essay writing tool, the service  doesn’t make up for it with additional features at all.

There’s also a text summarizer. Does it redeem the service? Not really. It just drops off the details of the text you insert there. So, you can’t even say that it actually summarizes your text. What it actually does is shorten it.

There’s an option to create a bullet list. Do you think that it will transform your text into a bullet point list that will work as a brief summary of the piece? Not at all. It will just be the same text that it has shortened, but each sentence will start from the bullet point. That’s not very helpful, isn’t it?

It’s time to reveal the most important aspect of the Edit Pad org essay writing tool. Is it plagiarism-free or not?

The good news is that the papers it produces are plagiarism-free. The bad news is that you still cannot use them.

The service claims that the text crafted by its AI tool can bypass AI detectors. It’s not a slight misinformation but a blatant lie, as the papers get flagged as AI-crafted momentarily. Still, one glance at the produced text is enough to figure out that it wasn’t written by a human. The conclusion is pretty much a word-for-word retelling of the first paragraph.

The service has its own plagiarism checker: at first glance, it works quite fine. Take any random text you find online and run it through the EditPad plag detector and any other uniqueness checker you will find online. The results are going to be pretty close.

However, EditPad’s plagiarism checker is not always sure about its results. If you run the same text several times, you can get different results. The first time, it will be 70% of plagiarized content; next time, it will be 100%; third time, it will be 92%, and so on. But maybe the site was just glitchy at the time we were testing its plag checker.
