‍So, what is Aithor? Aithor is an AI writing tool that strives to be the next big thing in the field of undetectable AI academic writing generation. Besides producing text based on a prompt, Aithor can also refine your text, disguise AI involvement, and add relevant citations to an existing draft.
Furthermore, Aithor supports multiple languages and allows you to select the tone of voice for the generated text. Despite a great pitch, however, Aithor has failed to win over customers’ hearts. So, for our Aithor AI review, we decided to investigate whether Aithor’s subpar reputation reflects the reality. To that end, we tried the tool’s generative capabilities, analyzed the output, and looked for caveats in the pricing, support, and features.

Aithor: Our Experience
We decided to generate an essay on the necessity of inflation for economic growth for a supposed Macroeconomics 101 class.

‍We selected the best option for a standard essay length (we usually order or generate five-page essays). In Aithor’s case, the option was three to five pages:
‍‍Aithor then asked us to choose one of its eight tones of voice. We went with formal as the least risky option:
‍‍To our surprise, Aithor also asked us to select the formatting style. We went with the APA:
‍‍After several seconds, Aithor presented us with the paper’s outline. We left it as-is:
‍‍Of course, we couldn’t get the whole five-pager without paying a dime. However, it was still frustrating as the website doesn’t mention the limits on free use:
‍‍Still, we got our hands on 736 words. On top of that, we didn’t need to create an account to get our hands on the output.
All in all, however, the generated text didn’t pass a single AI content check. It also lacked citations and wasn’t adapted to our needs. Add that to a somewhat steep pricing and lack of proper customer support, and we can’t call Aithor a good option for AI writing tools.
Aithor Essay Writer: Is Aithor Good Value for the Money?
Let’s start with the obvious: our text didn’t contain any citations whatsoever. You have to manually open a special menu at each paragraph to add references (AI Actions -> Find References). We’re not fans of this approach as citations risk ending up irrelevant to the text itself.
‍‍As for the quality of the output, it was as decent as the content generated by ChatGPT. That is to say, there were multiple filler sentences that didn’t quite add value to the paper. The text read cold and lifeless.
On top of that, the text wasn’t structures like an essay – more like a research paper. That’s a key limitation of Aithor: it doesn’t allow you to choose the type of academic writing. So, our introduction lacked a clear thesis statement, for example – a must-have in any type of essay.
We were also intrigued by the Aithor’s advertised multi-language support. So, we generated a short paper in French based on a prompt, “Les dangers du ChatGPT pour l'éducation.” The results were quite… sad. The generated snippet of text was riddled with errors in article use and verb conjugation.
Aithor & Customer Support: Reachable?
If you appreciate live chat support, Aithor isn’t a tool for you. Whether you have an issue with the Aithor essay generation process or need help with billing, Aithor only allows you to contact the support team via Facebook Messenger or a contact form. And no, there’s no phone customer support, either.
The process of contacting support is also not as frictionless as we’d love it to be. First, you need to head to the Support page. There, you need to confirm that you didn’t find the answer to your question among the meager five FAQs on the page:
‍‍Only after that will you see the contact support options. While you may like the option to use the Facebook Messenger one, we don’t think it’s a great substitute for a live chat. Some students may not have a Facebook account; others may not want to expose it (understandably so):
‍To test customer support quality, we decided to opt for the contact form route. We pretended to lack understanding of what languages Aithor supports. After a week of no response, we gave up hope of hearing back from Aithor.
Is Aithor Intuitive in Use?
Although the few existing Aithor reviews called the tool confusing and too complicated to use, our experience didn’t corroborate those claims. The whole journey from the topic prompt and tone of voice selection to outline and text generation was smooth and well-thought-out, in our opinion.
That doesn’t mean that Aithor is 100% straightforward, however – but it’s not an accidental shortcoming, probably. The thing is, Aithor doesn’t communicate clearly which features are paid and which ones are free. It also doesn’t warn you about the limits on AI content generation.
So, we understand why some customers found Aithor confusing. It’s not because user flows are unintuitive – it’s because Aithor isn’t great at providing the right information at the right time to its users.
On top of that, we found it overly complicated to use Aithor as a writing assistant. If you already have a draft, you still need to go through all the steps for generating a paper before reaching the editor. Only then you can paste your draft and work with it.
Is Aithor Pocket-Friendly? Pricing Overview
Aithor offers some generative features for free. However, if you want to get the whole text generated and get more "reliable" citations, prepare to pay for the premium plan.
How much does Aithor cost? Here’s a short overview of the tool’s current price:
- $24.99/month if billed monthly
- $16.99/month if billed once every three months
- $8.33/month if billed annually
‍‍A lot of features are locked behind a paywall. While we’re not against that in general, it’d be nice of Aithor to communicate the differences between a free and paid plan properly. For example, you can’t export your paper on a free plan:
‍‍It’s only once you’re ready to upgrade to a paid plan that Aithor lists some features available on the paid plan. Those include reliable referencing (does it mean that referencing on a free plan is unreliable?) and a personalization tool:
‍‍As for discounts or promo codes, we couldn’t find any offers for new or existing customers. The only way to save a buck is to pay the subscription fee for three months or a whole year at once.
Aithor: Undetectable?
Aithor tries to convince you that its generated content is disguised automatically. Verifying it without leaving Aithor, however, would require a paid plan. So, we decided to run checks on the snippet of text we generated for this Aithor review using external tools, instead.
Copyleaks detected AI content right away, highlighting all the sentences in red:
‍‍GPTZero, another AI detection tool with a high accuracy rate, also deemed the text 100% likely to be created with AI:
‍‍So, if you’re hoping Aithor will live up to its “undetectable AI content” promise, we’re sorry to destroy those hopes – but Aithor can’t deliver such content.
That said, it’s a common issue with AI writing tools: many promise undetectability, but few can actually deliver on that promise. That’s all because it’s extremely difficult to remove the patterns that AI checkers look for from the generated content.
Aithor’s Extra Features
Aithor isn’t only an AI content generation tool – it can also serve as your writing assistant. So, we gave it a go: we pasted a short essay on intrinsic and extrinsic motivation principles and tinkered with the tool’s so-called AI Actions.
Rewriting worked fine, even though the rewriter didn’t quite follow our directions. Paraphrasing, on the other hand, worked better. Aithor transformed the paragraph to match the selected tone of voice (casual).
Referencing, on the other hand, came with the same downside as it did in the text generated from scratch: some sources were only cursorily related to the content.
The Expand and Shorten actions worked like a charm, even though the expanded text was somewhat harder to read and didn’t add any value to the text.

Aithor Content: Plagiarism-Free?
If there’s one thing any AI tool can do well, it’s generating content that passes plagiarism checkers with ease. Aithor.com AI writing tool is no exception. We ran a check on our paper on inflation and economic growth, and the checker considered only 2% of the text to be plagiarized. Another tool returned a 3% plagiarism rate.
However, before you deem that a substantial advantage of Aithor, let us reiterate: any AI writing tool can return plagiarism-free content. Passing plagiarism checks is the challenging part here; it’s passing AI detection tools.
And AI checks become more and more frequent: Turnitin recently embedded AI scans into its platform. All papers that go through Turnitin are automatically checked for AI content; this feature can’t be turned off even by educational institutions.
In Conclusion: Aithor’s Pros & Cons
So, is Aithor worth it? In our opinion, not really – there are better AI writing tools out there. Yes, you can get plagiarism-free text at the click of a button with Aithor, but it won’t pass an AI content scan. On top of that, the pricing is somewhat steep, the tool doesn’t communicate clearly which features are paid, and the generated text quality is no better than ChatGPT output.

Is Aithor legit as an AI writing tool?
Yes. Aithor is a legit AI writing tool that does what it says it does – more or less. While it doesn’t live up to its “undetectable AI content” promise, Aithor generates content based on your prompt. It also puts several AI editing tools at your disposal.
Does Aithor offer good value for the money?
We’d say no. Aithor doesn’t have any competitive advantages over the likes of ChatGPT. (AI editing tools alone can’t justify the subscription fee.) On top of that, its referencing feature lacks reliability, and the content produced with Aithor is easily detected as AI-generated.
Is Aithor AI free to use?
Yes, although there are certain limitations on the tool’s functionality under the free plan. You can’t generate a full paper – you’ll get only a part of it. You can use its AI editing tools, but you can’t export the text.
Is Aithor AI expensive?
Relatively, yes – unless you decide to pay a year's worth of subscription fees. Considering its unreliable referencing tool and so-so output quality, we’d say that Aithor doesn’t offer great value for the money.
Will Aithor-generated text pass an AI content scan?
Unlikely. While Aithor advertises itself as an undetectable AI writer, our independent scans showed that checkers like Copyleaks and GPTZero easily identify the text as AI content. So, don’t count on Aithor to produce undetectable content on its own.
Is Aithor-generated text plagiarism-free?
Yes. Like any other AI writing tool, Aithor generates original content based on your prompt. Keep in mind that it doesn’t mean that the created content can pass AI detection tools. Aithor’s texts scored poorly in our AI checks, with both tools deeming the text AI-generated.
