Now that you know more about this tool, the big question remains: is Grammarly the best option for editing your academic papers? We rigorously tested both a free and premium version of Grammarly, and here’s what we’ve discovered.

When you type your text directly in Grammarly, it analyzes it along the way, offering you suggestions for improvement. If you paste the completed text, the tool takes a couple of seconds to assess it and suggest corrections.

First, the tool gives your text an overall score on a 100-point scale. If you click on the score, you will find the overall details of your text, such as the number of characters and words, reading time, and readability.

Then, you can move on to reviewing suggested corrections in four categories: correctness, clarity, engagement, and delivery. You can choose to accept or dismiss each suggestion, depending on your needs.

All in all, we have to state that Grammarly does a pretty great job of detecting straightforward spelling, style, and grammar errors. Most corrections it offered us were well-justified. And the website also provided clear explanations on why each particular part of the text is considered mistaken.

Also, the tool does a great job of detecting the difference between spellings. For example, it can allow you to correct a word that’s from British spelling if the rest of your text uses American spelling.

Nevertheless, Grammarly cannot be considered a fully accurate editor. Unlike a human editor, it can suggest false corrections. So, it’s not recommended to rely on it blindly.

It’s no secret that proofreading and editing your academic work is tedious and time-consuming. Many students spend hours and even days on this task. And that’s when Grammarly really comes in handy.

Being a well-trained machine, Grammarly can analyze even large texts in no time and instantly give you a list of corrections. All in all, analyzing and editing your essay with Grammarly takes less than 10 minutes (or slightly more, depending on the text length). Clearly, it can significantly speed up the entire editing process. But there is a catch.

As was said earlier, Grammarly isn’t a live editor. Hence, it may not see some mistakes or may not understand if you made a particular “mistake” on purpose. That is, you can’t rely on it to the fullest extent. Eventually, all texts edited with this tool need to get a second round of revision by you or an expert editor.

As we all know, originality is a big thing in academic writing. Hence, if you are hoping to receive high grades for every paper you craft, you really need a solid plagiarism detection tool by your side. And Grammarly does offer you such a tool in its Premium plan.

So, is Grammarly accurate in terms of plagiarism detection?

We scanned a completed 5-page essay for originality using Grammarly and a few other trusted plagiarism checkers. The results impressed us. Grammarly gave our text a score of 91% originality. The same scores were shown in several free checkers, including Quetext and Duplichecker. However, Turnitin showed a lower score of 87%.

These findings let us state that Grammarly’s plagiarism checker is good compared to many free tools. However, it’s only 90% accurate. Sometimes, it can fail to detect some plagiarized content or, on the contrary, falsely flag some parts of the text.

After testing the tool ourselves and analyzing lots of customer reviews, we are finally ready to answer the main question.
