First Look at Studocu
What is Studocu? If you’ve ever used Course Hero, you already have a good idea of what Studocu is. It’s not one of the standard academic writing services we typically review, as it’s not about ordering your essay from professional writers. Instead, Studocu can potentially help you do better on tests and otherwise improve your academic performance by studying student notes and other materials relevant to the classes you’re currently taking.
For example, if you’re in the middle of your Criminal Justice course and struggle to understand the material based on your textbook alone, Studocu can help. Fellow students know better than anyone what is expected from them. They also understand what the most complicated topics are, so they are perfectly positioned to help you with your studies.
Also, Studocu has an AI assistant that you can use to help you with your writing assignments. We’ve seen quite a few studocu.com reviews from students who are routinely using Studocu’s AI assistant to help them with essays and research papers.
The problem, however, is the discrepancy between Studocu’s ratings across different platforms (4.4 on Trustpilot vs. 1.0 on Sitejabber). Let’s explore what’s up with that.
Is Studocu Genuinely Helpful?
The short answer to this question is yes—Studocu is a good platform if you’re in need of some help with your studies and are looking for something more concise than the textbook you’re expected to use in class.
It has notes prepared by students who have already completed the course you’re currently in the middle of (or, at the very least, a similar course). You can use other people’s notes to prepare for the upcoming test or understand the chapters you’ve recently missed.
At the same time, we have to reinstate that Studocu isn’t what you’re looking for if you feel like you could use some assistance with your writing assignments. It’s a great platform for learning, but it’s of no use to you if you have a paper due and need someone to actually help you with that paper.
We’ve tested Studocu’s AI assistant on a 5-page Communications essay about semiotics in car advertisements and found that it’s not particularly helpful, at least when it comes to writing.
Studocu’s Study Materials: Can They Help You Prepare for a Test?
Studocu was developed as an alternative to platforms akin to Course Hero, so study materials are the number one thing you can find there. Those include notes from fellow students, summaries of course readings, actual tests your professor might give you at the end of the course, and so on. It’s a great place to expand your knowledge on the topics you’re currently studying or, alternatively, to avoid reading 50+ pages of complicated text from your course textbook.
So, if you’re struggling with a certain class at the moment and are desperate to find something that will help you understand what the textbook is saying, Studocu is the right place for you. Considering how many contributors it has (most of them fellow students), it’s unlikely that you will have any problem finding relevant course materials that will help you do better in class.
At the same time, please keep in mind that a lot of professors change the questions for tests and other assessments every year. If that’s the case with yours, the tests you will find on Studocu will not help you prepare for the upcoming test. Still, you will learn something relevant from them.
Studocu Support Team
Based on our research, one of Studocu’s best aspects is its customer support team. It’s sadly common for academic writing services and other platforms that cater to the student audience to have subpar customer support. You typically have to wait for days to get a response, or you get it instantly but it’s so surface-level that you have no choice but to ask again.
That’s not the case with Studocu. We contacted Studocu customer service repeatedly because we wanted to understand whether or not they were willing to go the extra mile for a client who hasn’t even paid for a subscription yet. The results didn’t disappoint.
The longest we had to wait for a reply was about 20 minutes, which is way less than what we’re used to with academic writing services. Those can take hours (even though their services are way more time-sensitive).
Moreover, we were pleased to see that Studocu’s customer support specialists didn’t simply use standard responses to get us to leave them alone. Each message we received was thoughtful, straightforward, and genuinely helpful. If we had to rate the service based on the support’s competence, it would definitely be a 10/10.
Suppose you are looking for a service with an amazing support team and need a helping hand with your essay. In that case, EssayPro connects you with talented writers and provides exceptional support every step of the way. Think of their support team as your dedicated academic cheerleaders, available 24/7 to answer your questions, address your concerns, and ensure a smooth and stress-free experience. You can find more info on this in many EssayPro reviews online.
Studocu’s AI Assistant
You might be wondering why we decided to review Studocu when it isn’t even a writing service. The answer is the Studocucom ‘Ask AI’ feature.
It’s not that different from ChatGPT or any other AI tool; you can ask questions and get instant responses. In Studocu’s case, it’s not supposed to be a writing assistant. However, based on what we’ve seen from some of the reviews posted online and our readers’ inquiries, students do use Studocu’s AI for writing essays and other school assignments.
How does Studocu’s Ask AI work? You type any question and get an immediate response. It’s typically short, a paragraph or two long. However, you can always ask the tool to elaborate and then use the answers as parts of your school assignments. It’s great for fact-checking and understanding new concepts.
Sadly, it’s not available for Studocu free users, though, so expect to pay quite a lot for what’s essentially ChatGPT.
Studocu Prices: Is It Affordable on a Student Budget?
For the most part, we do think that Studocu can be of great help to struggling students, but the biggest issue is the Studocu pricing.
How much is Studocu? Suppose you decide to pay for a subscription (otherwise, you won’t have access to the study materials or the Ask AI feature). In that case, you will have to say goodbye to $7.99 a month (or $4.99 a month if you decide to make your Studocu payment annually instead of quarterly).
While this isn’t much, paying for the subscription only makes sense if you’re after study materials, meaning student notes, tests, and things like that. If you intend to use Studocu for the Ask AI feature that can help you with essay writing, we wouldn’t recommend it. The quality isn’t much different from ChatGPT’s free version; there’s no need to spend money on something you can get for free.
However, if your goal is to get access to study materials, the Studocu cost is worth it. The $5 you’re expected to pay isn’t a high price, especially compared to similar services akin to Course Hero. Those will set you back much more.

Is It Possible to Get a Refund on Studocu?
Another problem we’ve identified in Studocu while researching the service is refunds. Based on a few comments we’ve seen online, as well as our communication with Studocu’s customer support team, getting a Studocu refund is nearly impossible. If you decide to pay for the subscription, make sure to think everything through; once you pay, your chances of going back are close to none.
By the way, keep in mind that, unlike most other similar platforms, Studocu doesn’t offer the option to pay for one month only. It’s usually the safest bet unless there’s a free trial. However, Studocu only supports quarterly or yearly payments. So, once again, we recommend you weigh all the pros and cons before committing.
The service is relatively inexpensive, but would you waste your money on something you aren’t sure you will be actually using? There are quite a few alternatives in the market, and you might like those more. Check your options before making a decision.
Data Safety When Using Studocu
We’ve seen a few people asking about data safety when using Studocu, including its Ask AI feature. Users who have limited experience with AI tools often worry about their data safety, and their concerns aren’t always unwarranted.
However, if that’s stopping you from using Studocu, there’s no need to worry. The answer to the “Is Studocu safe?” question is yes. Regardless of whether you’re using it as a library of fellow students’ study materials or an AI writing tool, your data is safe.
We wouldn’t recommend sharing any sensitive information with the AI assistant (say, your payment details), but that’s pretty much the only thing to keep in mind. Otherwise, any concerns about data safety while using Studocu are ungrounded.
Studocu Plagiarism in AI Assistant’s Responses
We’ve seen a couple of student commenters wondering, “Is Studocu cheating?” The answer depends entirely on how you’re using it. If your goal is to improve your knowledge and understand the course materials better by using someone else’s notes, there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s basically the same as if you’d have a study partner to go through the assigned readings together.
Similarly, if you’re using Studocu’s Ask AI feature to clarify the concepts you don’t fully understand or fact-check something you’d like to include in your paper, you have nothing to worry about. It’s perfectly fine, no matter how strict your college’s academic integrity policies are.
We’d only recommend you avoid using the responses you get from Ask AI as parts of your papers without editing them first; that’s a very risky approach.
Studocu’s Pros and Cons
Is Studocu worth it?—It depends. If you’re after study materials, it is; Studocu is way cheaper than Course Hero and other popular alternatives. The subscription price is perfectly reasonable. However, if you’re looking for an AI writing tool, we recommend exploring other options. Studocu’s Ask AI wasn’t meant as one, and it isn’t as convenient as more conventional AI writing tools.
